Which venues are here
The venue list is the NSW liquor licence register, filtered to the Northern Beaches and to licences that permit drinking on the premises. It is the legal record of where you can buy a beer, so a venue is here because the government says it exists, not because somebody remembered it. Every listing carries its licence number, and you can look any of them up in the public register.
Eleven of the venues on this page are the exception, and they say so on the card: real places we hold research on that the register does not list under that name. That usually means the licence is held under a company name rather than the name on the door. They are kept rather than dropped, and marked rather than quietly mixed in.
What the register cannot tell us is whether a place actually pours tap beer — the same licence covers a restaurant, a golf clubhouse and a public bar. So this page shows the seventy-five venues built around serving beer: pubs, bars, breweries, RSLs and bowlos. That is a judgement about venue type, not about licence class, because licence class gets it wrong in both directions — it would drop four genuine pubs and keep a gun club.
The other seventy-two are golf clubs, surf clubs, sporting and social clubhouses, restaurants and entertainment venues. None of them is deleted; they are all on the full list, ranked by price per standard drink, for people chasing the cheapest schooner rather than a good night. Several of them expect you to be a member or a guest of one, and nobody has been to check whether their bars are open to anyone who walks in.
Where the rule gets it wrong, a person overrides it by hand and writes down why — the four clubs promoted onto this page, and the three distilleries kept off it, each carry a one-line reason in pipeline/front.json.
The prices
Every price on this site is generated, not observed. Nobody has stood at these bars and written the numbers down. They exist so the maths, the map and the ranking can be built and checked before the real data lands, and they carry the words seed estimate everywhere they appear.
When a real price arrives it needs two independent people to agree before it reads as confirmed. Until then it says reported, and says when.
The happy hours
Twelve venues have a happy hour here, each one taken from a named source with a working link on the card. Most are now the venue's own page rather than a directory. The rest are unknown, which is not the same as "none". It means nobody has published one we could find.
A batch of sixty-five candidate deals was checked against its own sources on 31 July 2026. Eight survived. The rest were held back, mostly because more than half of them traced to a single undated listicle that says its own prices may have changed.
Two venues, Hotel Steyne and Harbord Diggers, are recorded as confirmed not having one. That distinction is deliberate.
The price history
The line on a venue page is drawn only from real observations — prices
published to this site, and any you have reported yourself. It is never generated.
Seed estimates are a guess at a number; a made-up trend would be a claim about
what a real business has been doing with its prices, which is a different and worse
thing to invent. Most venues will show no line at all until people report them, and
that is correct.
The map
Sixty-five of the venues on this page sit on a real coordinate: thirty-nine geocoded by the licence register itself, and twenty-six hand-checked against OpenStreetMap. The remaining ten are venues the register does not list, and they are drawn at the centre of their suburb with a hollow, dashed pin and the words location unconfirmed. A dot in the right suburb is honest; a dot pretending to be an address is not.
Why bother saying all this
A price comparison site that quietly rounds guesses up to facts is worse than no site. If a figure here is dressed up as more certain than it is, that's a bug, and worth telling us about.
